The kids were good at sunday school — what happened?

Monday, October 6th, 2008

My kids go to Catholic sunday school (called Catechism) every sunday it is in session.  They are in the same class, unlike in school, where they are ON PURPOSE split into two different classes.  This year, the catechism department tried to put them in separate catechism classes due to their behaivor last year.  One thing led to another, and they’re back in the same class, but I am supposed to go in about 20 mins before it’s over to help ‘monitor’ (i.e. babysit!) in case the catechists run into problems during group prayer.  This week, when I walked in, one of the teachers said, ‘They were so good!  Are they on medication?’   I got quite a good laugh over that — (no, no medication!).  Other kids are just good, my kids must be on medication or something to be good!

FTTKS: Bus Hunt/China

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

(FTTKS=Funny things the kids said)
First - the bus did not come their first day of school, and even though I called the school to mention this, the bus also did not come the second day of school, which left me ah, rather annoyed.  The kids were waiting out on the front porch, and I opened the door and said, “Come on - we’re going on a bus hunt’ (thinking that I was going to find that bus driver and have a word with her!).  The boys thought that was really funny - they thought I was going to try to kill a bus.  (bus hunt — get it?)

Second - over the past week or so, we have dealt with several items made in China.  One was a gift from last Xmas that I had squirreled away, another was a new dvd player.. in both cases, there were some instructions that weren’t very good, and my husband said, “Where was it made?  China?”.  Yesterday, we got a new TV after having taken one back to Costco.  First question - was it made in China?  Yes, indeed, it was.  Eric said, ‘Don’t they ever take a day off?’  :-)

1st day of 2nd grade

Monday, August 25th, 2008

The boys started their first day of 2nd grade today.  First of all, they want to know what all the fuss is about dressing nice the first day of school.  They think that’s ‘lame’.  Secondly, Cole thought they were actually starting 3rd grade rather than 2nd grade.  Apparently he thinks time really flies.

Each of the boys’ teachers asked if there was a) something I wanted them to know about my child and b) something my child wanted the teacher to know about them.  I of course put in the usual (i.e., in not so many words: good luck to you, Ms Teacher!) , and I asked each what they wanted their teacher to know about them.

Cole said that he wanted the teacher to know that he doesn’t not know very much about quarters, nickels and dimes.  And, he knows how to write sentences very well, and he really likes Webkinz.

Eric said that he wanted the teacher to know that he is not very good at spelling, he also knows how to write sentences very well (nevermind that he doesn’t know how to spell, mind you), and he also likes Webkinz.

Now, when I get home tonight and ask what happened at school today, I’ll probably get the usual response,: ‘Nothing’.  :-)

wants to sleep on the plane

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

We’re going to NH in a few weeks to stay at my uncle’s camp on Lake Winnepasauke.  We are flying into Boston.  My son Cole had a fit the other day because we’re flying during the day and not at night.  Why?  Because he’s SURE that the best sleep he ever had was on a plane when we went to Colorado and he’s been wanting to have that kind of sleep again.  6 years old and remembering when and where he had his best sleep.  :-)   (we told him he could sleep on the plane anyway, even though it’s during the daytime, but he insists that’s not the same)

Visitors last weekend

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Last weekend, we had some friends over who we hadn’t seen in several years.  We have known them for almost 20 years, I guess, but after we had kids we just haven’t gotten together as much.  (is ‘gotten’ a word?)  Anyway, they brought with them a little boy, aged 5, named Anthony.  Anthony is being raised by his great grandmother, age 87.  Anthony was the most laid back, well-mannered little boy I have ever been around.  And, he had Patience!  We have NONE of that in our house! (more…)

Eric’s question about a shot

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

As you know, little kids HATE shots.  If they have to go the Doctor for a checkup, they want to know if they have to get a SHOT.  At the last dr’s visit, indeed, the kids had to get shots.  Eric was beside himself — how much will it hurt????

Finally, the question that made me smile:

“Will it hurt as much as Quinna biting me?  Because that doesn’t hurt too bad”
