I thought it was going to be last night. But, nope, not yet! Here’s a picture from this morning. Sorry it’s fuzzy.
Poooooor Quinna. I took her to the vet yesterday, and she has gained 26 lbs! My vet friend Donna had assured me that I could ‘do the math’ and figure out how many puppies there were. Why risk little puppy brains to an xray, when you can just do ‘the math’ to figure out how many pups are in there? ok, so according to her… each pup weighs between 12 and 16 oz. Figure about 4 lbs for placentas and maybe a couple more for the extra blood volume. Um ok - so 26 lbs minus 6 pounds for placentas and blood volume - ok, that’s 20 lbs if puppies?. So, what’s she saying??? 20 puppies??? 24??????? So then I realized that when SHE does this, her dogs are, ahem, in a little bit more ‘body’, shall we say, than my dogs. (i.e., I think her dogs are a tad FAT, she thinks my dogs are too skinny.) Ok, so let’s say that if Quinna were her dog, that Quinna would have started out at 70 lbs rather than 60 lbs. Then, take the 6 pounds off, so that’s 10 lbs of puppies. Maybe more realistic. Although, I’m sticking with an odd number, b/c one side of her is larger than the other side. So, I think she’s got an extra pup on one side. Shall we start a pool?
Everyone’s getting excited! Email me if you are a great home looking for a working prospect or a (high energy) pet!
Many thanks to Jason Dohse of dei Dohse Dobermanns for taking these shots!
I’m trying to get my hairstylist’s info out — her whereabouts were in flux there for a little while after she left the Garden Salon. I am hoping that by putting this in my blog, the web spiders will find it. She is here: www.poshthesalon.com . If you’re looking for a new stylist and you can get to Durham — I highly recommend her!!!
Our Working Dobermans of the Carolinas club had a 2 day show this weekend — 2 conformation shows, temperament testing, and 2 obedience trials. I showed Quinna in conformation, which meant we had to do our Adult Temperament Test first.. She passed that with flying colors, and then into the conformation ring we went. If you want some good entertainment, you should see me trying to run my girl around the conformation ring. To put it mildly - I SUCK AT THAT.
I don’t exactly practice, b/c it’s not really my ‘thing’ - but i thought, what the heck. Support the club. Well, low and behold, we got an Excellent rating AND a CC! (in UDC, 3 Challenge Certificates earned + working title = UDC championship. Your dog can’t get a CC unless you get an Excellent rating and your dog passes the age-appropriate temperament test. ) Then, we also competed in the 2 obedience trials - mainly b/c we really needed entries, and I thought - again - supporting the club… So about 2 weeks ago, I taught Quinna the stand for exam, and we worked on minute-long group sits a few times, and that was it. Well, she did an excellent job for me and we came home with two High in Trials!!! 197 points on the first one and 195.5 on the 2nd one! yippee!!! I’m so proud of my little preggo girl!
…and there’s LOTS of em!!! contact me if you’re interested!
If all goes well, we’ll be expecting pups on or around 9/1/2010!!!
